In 1999, La Aurora S.A. revived its oldest cigar format, the Preferido, a distinctive, curvaceous perfecto that quickly gained popularity. However, the complex shape proved challenging to produce. To capitalize on the blend's appeal, the company reimagined it in a more in-demand shape - the robusto. The resulting Aurora Preferidos Maduro Robusto, introduced in 2009, boasts a unique characteristic: it's the sole cigar on the Top 25 list to feature Brazilian tobacco, which is used extensively in both the filler and as the wrapper. This yields a robust smoke, marked by pronounced hickory, black cherry, and raisin flavors, accompanied by a considerable strength.
