The Tatuaje brand, founded by Pete Johnson, is known for its unconventional cigar names that can be challenging to pronounce. One of its notable releases is the Cabaiguan, named after a Cuban town situated near the island's center. The Garcia family has been producing Cabaiguans for Johnson since 2006, initially in Miami and later in Nicaragua. While the brand showed promise, it wasn't until the introduction of the Guapo size that it gained significant recognition, earning high praise for its bolder and darker profile. This success led Johnson to expand the Guapo line into a full range of eight sizes, available in both natural and maduro versions. The original Guapo, now referred to as the Guapo Toro Grande, remains a standout, boasting exceptional craftsmanship, including a meticulously formed head and a distinctive flag tip that is wider at the top than the bottom, resembling a fan shape. When smoked, the Guapo Toro Grande offers a well-balanced flavor profile, featuring sweet cocoa powder notes, a subtle kick of black pepper, and rich, cedary and leathery undertones.
